7th to 9th April....Miles and Miles of Texas...avoiding the storms...

As mentioned on the last post we have changed our plans to visit  Oklahoma as severe storms are forecast with possible tornadoes....better safe than sorry...
Instead we are heading for Wichita Falls, Texas and an overnight stop....

We take US 287 East from Amarillo, a really good 4 lane highway...the landscape is mainly agricultural, farming communities and a few small towns...

The small towns we pass through on our travels are always interesting, sadly like in UK many shops are closed....
On this route we stop at 2 of the best rest areas we have used on our travels....
Very hot...low 90's :)

Over the next 3 days as we traverse Texas we must see at least 100 water towers !! Ha ha I'm in heaven but you'll be pleased to know I have restricted myself to only posting a few of them....

And today especially, the railroad runs along side of the road...double heaven for me then :)

Our campsite for tonight is near Wichita Falls at Burkburnett which turns out to be only a mile from the Texas-Oklahoma State Line so we do get to visit Oklahoma if only for half an hour while we top up with diesel...
Although the obvious song for today should be Wichita Lineman...Glen Campbell...we have to settle for  (I Saw) Miles and Miles of Texas....Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys.... as that is what we saw....

Wednesday morning and back on the road on route to Texarkana, Texas....as we have traveled east the landscape, still very agricultural but now much greener and we see water and trees again....I miss the desert already !!
Lots of big ranches...South Fork comes to mind....

Camp Harris at tonight's stopover and it's excellent, a relief after last night's awful one...
It's called Shady Pines and we had to say here being long time big fans of The Golden Girls....
They had a very good book exchange just right for us to swop out some of our paperbacks...yes my friends I did have  a little re-arrangement and tidy up of the books...got to keep my hand in ready for when I get home and hopefully some much loved library work !!!!
The owners of this campsite also own the RV dealership next door....as we are in no rush this morning as only 125 miles to Hot Springs, Arkansas we wander over to have a look and fall in love with another Cedar Creek 5th wheel....we can dream and  maybe if we ever win big on the premium bonds :)

Texarkana...pronounced Tex-ar-kana is half in Texas and half in Arkansas pronounced  Ark-in-saw  !!!

Another sticker can now go onto the map of the USA of states visited.....
As always the staff were very helpful and informative at the Welcome Centre....

Most of todays route is on the I-30 a busy truck route, very green and much like England in some ways....
We arrived at Catherine's Landing RV Park early afternoon, another excellent campsite at Lake Catherine....time to pop into Hot Springs which is much bigger than we had envisaged....we shall come back and visit the old historic area with the big spa/hot springs hotels another day as we are here a week...
For the past couple of days we have seen beautiful purple wisteria growing as a bush/small tree but so far I've been unable to get a good photo....
Storms were forecast and wow heaviest rain we have ever seen plus hail and thunder and lightening from late afternoon through until about 11pm....can't believe we didn't loose power but just lost the TV signal a couple of times...
Assuming we are not washed away more news from Camp Harris, Arkansas soon...
