9th May 2015......WW2 Parade, Carrabelle, FL

There is a very interesting WW2 Museum here in town....packed full of artefacts and information, with a very knowledgeable curator who talks us through the history of the area and why the museum is here...also in attendance are  a few veterans of the war ready to share their stories....the museum also has a DUKW but sadly it's waiting repair and "stuck" in storage so won't be in the parade tomorrow....... Camp Gordon Johnston was a huge military training area for amphibious landings during WW2 originally training for the Pacific Arena rather then European Arena......
We visited on Friday....the parade is tomorrow....
And it's the day of the annual WW2 Vehicles Parade......the raising of the flag proved to be a bit complicated due to various opinions on how it should be done !!!
Amusement for the watchers....
And hey the finished article.....let's hope there's not a fire nearby !!
The start of the parade.....
For a small town it was a fair turnout...with a "marching" band, groups of bikers, old cars and various old WW2 vehicles...

Like the Mardi Gras in New Orleans...beads and candy thrown from the vehicles...
We sat watching while having a good chat with a couple of veterans ......

Great fun....have to say the flag came down quicker than it went up !!
Back home to watch The Players Championship from TPC Sawgrass and a long walk along the beach...I, again, have a lovely swim in the sea which is much warmer than expected......
Next post soon (hopefully not the last...get it !!)
from The Happy Sun Bleached Campers....
